Did you fail your Matric? Or you are not happy with your current pass marks? Department of Basic Education has a fantastic programme called Matric Second Chance. According to Mam Angie Motshekga the Minister of Basic Education, this programme was established after the former South African President, Mr. Jacob Zuma lamented the fact that he receives a lot of cries from young people who told him that they needed a second chance at Matric.
Minister Angie Motshekga said that this program is of great assistance to learners who did not complete their high school, did not do well with their matric results, or simply failed their Grade 12. The programme will give them more time to prepare and then go on to get their matric certificate.
The Matric Second Chance programme does not only cater to learners, it caters to out-of-school youth who do not have a matric certificate, they can also register and get their matric.
Registrations will close on the 12th of February 2022.
This initiative has been around for the past 5 years, it is a great step up from the previous set up which never allowed learners a second chance at Matric. Finishing Schools were the only option and they were very expensive.
“Last year I went through the same programme, my matric marks were not good enough for me to go to university, then I registered for a rewrite, I had more time to study because the exams were in June, I was able to get my marks and I enrolled at University of Pretoria” Thato.
Mam Angie Motshekga requested the South African Media to spread the message about this programme, people reacted in shock on Twitter because they were not aware of such a programme.
Young people can now tackle their matric year with confidence, knowing that should they not do well in the final exams, they will be given a second chance.
