Little Eden, and Edenglen High School have formed a partnership that has produced lasting impact. What began as a fundraising initiative has blossomed into something much deeper: a connection rooted in compassion, youth changing lives, and genuine care for individuals with profound intellectual disabilities.

The Power of R5: 300 Smiles Campaign, Edenglen High School special

Edenglen High School participated in our 300 Smiles Campaign, a school money tin collection competition that encourages each class to raise a minimum of R200, just an average of R5 per student. The creativity and energy the learners brought to this challenge were incredible. Grade 9H rose to the occasion and took 1st place, raising an impressive R517.50, while Grade 8B followed closely as the runner-up with R419. These contributions went directly toward supporting the care and daily needs of our residents, bringing joy, dignity, and comfort to those who call LITTLE EDEN home.

A Spur of Generosity

Edenglen’s efforts didn’t stop there. On 23 April, Edenglen High’s matric class partnered with Spur Karaglen to host a special fundraising evening where learners swapped books for aprons and served customers at the restaurant. The funds raised amounted to a wonderful R1,500 and were donated toward our Mandela Day Madiba Buggies Campaign, which focuses on refurbishing custom mobility aids (wheelchairs) for our residents.

Beyond fundraising, Edenglen High has also encouraged hands-on involvement. A group of learners recently visited our Edenvale facility to volunteer their time and talents. From sorting donations at our charity depot to engaging with our residents through reading, singing, and sensory play, their presence brought joy, stimulation, and a sense of connection to the individuals in our care.

From Coins to Connections:

Edenglen High School

In addition to raising funds, students from Edenglen High have also given their time. Several learners visited our Edenvale facility to volunteer helping at our charity depot and spending time with our residents through reading, singing, and interactive play. These moments of connection are incredibly meaningful, providing both stimulation and companionship for our residents.

We’re excited to announce that the 300 Smiles Money Tin Campaign is still ongoing, and we are calling on schools across Gauteng to take part!

This is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Encourage social responsibility among learners
  • Promote teamwork through friendly inter-class competition
  • Contribute to a cause that supports some of the most vulnerable members of our community

Your school can make a real difference; just R5 per student can help us provide essential care, restore dignity, and create smiles that last a lifetime.

Whether you’d like to join the campaign, plan a fundraiser, or explore volunteering opportunities, we would love to connect with you.
