Subjects

Students share their favorite subjects which make them shine!

Students are preparing for their final exams, which subjects keep the learners smiling? Zinhle Mbanjwa is sharing her favorite subjects with us. When it comes to my favorite subject, I have two:

  • English
  • Accounting

Let’s start with English! I love everything because it’s a language that connects me to the world beyond my world. I can communicate with people who may not be able to communicate in my mother tongue of isiZulu. This helps break language barriers, and culture connect with other tribes or foreign nationalities. South Africa is part of the global community now, as learners in the rural communities we also want to be part of this global community, hence why we are prepped for this integration.

I know that our generation is shying away from book reading and literature which is bad, but in my school at Sinevuso Secondary School, our teachers emphasize the importance of reading a book. Not only does it improve your communication skills but it stimulates the mind as well. I am a person who loves writing, is passionate about communicating, and loves drama, this is why I love English as a subject.

Another subject that I’m passionate about is accounting. I know that you might be thinking numbers, spreadsheets, and budgets can be dull. But for me, accounting is like being a detective uncovering the secret of how money works. I love learning about how to manage finances, save money, and make smart investments, and yes understanding how to deduct “nton nton”(those pesky expenses) is a vital skill! Through accounting, I’ve gained a new appreciation for the value of money and the importance of being financially savvy. It’s a numbers game and numbers tell a story, at the end of the day even adults are chasing a particular number as a salary or income.

Having an accounting as a skill then becomes very important. Not many people are good with numbers, making this subject very crucial for me.

In conclusion, my two favorite subjects may seem like they are on opposite ends of each other, but they are not they complement one another because to unlock my dream, English helps me communicate my ideas, and accounting teaches me to manage my finances.

I’m excited to see where these subjects will take me, and I’m proud to be a learner at Sinevuso Secondary School. What are your favorite subjects and why?
